Moonware – Streamlining air travel
Moonware was founded with the belief that multimodal air transportation will become the prime mover of people and goods during the 21st century. From eVTOLs that will ferry passengers between cities and suburban areas, to supersonic aircraft shaving travel time between continents, we are ushering in a new air and space age that will further globalize humanity.

Airports and the hubs uniting these modes of transport will need to evolve to meet this new modern demand for air travel. In spite of the current advancements in aircraft technology, the infrastructure and ground processes that will enable these new aerial ecosystems to happen are largely outdated.

Moonware is building an integrated ecosystem of intelligent software systems and autonomous vehicles that collaborate between aircraft, ground support equipment (GSE) and personnel to efficiently service flights. Our value proposition is simple: increase on-time performance, improve ramp safety, and save aircraft fuel by improving ground asset utilization and human workload.

Our products holistically solve these problems through a unified process, decreasing ground handling interfaces and hence the number of disruptions. This brings safety, speed and reliability to the ground handling ecosystem and ultimately lowers operating costs with the potential to save airlines more than $30B every year.

Software Team
Moonware’s software team is building a ground vehicle fleet management solution.

The software’s core functionalities include automated scheduling, dispatching and airfield routing for all types of GSE. A core optimizer schedules and routes ground vehicles to perform tasks around an airfield, subject to time windows, fleet availability, and flight service priority queues, among other constraints. Additionally, the platform provides airlines with real-time, map-based visualization and situational awareness of GSE and aircraft, enabling airline operators to monitor airside activity at all times.

It also enables operators to gather unique ground movement data and aggregates fleet metrics for airlines to measure their ground/turnaround operational performance, which is unprecedented in the airline industry.

About the Role
We are looking for a Software Engineering Lead with full-stack experience, who would be entering a hands-on senior development role, with potential long-term program management opportunities for our software team as we grow.

Your near-term responsibilities will include:

  • Architect v2 of Moonware’s software — a cloud-based, scalable software stack capable of integrating with 3rd party legacy software systems such as:
    • Airline flight timetables
    • Vehicle maintenance and inventory management software
    • Vehicle telemetry data streams
    • Air Traffic Control squawks, radio feeds
  • Define integration of software blocks including data ingestion pipelines, core optimization engine, internal data aggregations (performance metrics), and front-end
  • Own API development and release
  • Determine appropriate database and cloud solutions

Your long-term responsibilities could include:

  • Own the long-term development roadmap of the software
  • Spearhead hiring for Moonware’s initial software team and grow it over time
  • Contribute to ideating and deploying the core technical architecture of the next generation of automated airsides

  • Proficient in Python, node.js, Java, JavaScript, C, C++, C#
  • Experience with writing SQL-based applications such as MySQL, MS SQL or Oracle
  • Experience working with Linux or similar OS
  • Experience building scalable applications (web applications or back-end services)

Nice to haves:

  • Aerospace experience (aircraft OEMs, airlines, or aviation ops in general)
  • B2B client interfacing and product development experience
  • Data science or algorithms development background
